In which states are your therapists licensed to practice?

How long is a typical session, and how often are sessions?
All individual, couples, and family therapy sessions are 45–50 minutes long.
Our practice prioritizes consistency with weekly sessions to help build momentum towards sustainable growth. You and your therapist can discuss whether meeting twice per week on a permanent or temporary basis may be best for meeting your needs.
Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network, private pay practice, which means that all clients pay the full session fee at the time of session.
However, PPO insurance plans can cover anywhere from 30-80% of the session cost for out-of-network therapy after your deductible has been met.
If you have a specific provider in mind, you can instantly verify your out-of-network insurance benefits specific to that therapist here: mentaya.co/b/thecity
As a courtesy to our clients, we are happy to submit your out-of-network insurance claims on your behalf at no additional cost to you to help facilitate any reimbursement that you may be entitled to in accordance with your out-of-network insurance plan benefits.
What are your session fees?
Session fees vary by provider:
Associate Psychotherapists:
Individual: $120/session
Couples: $140/session
Senior Psychotherapists:
Individual: $150/session
Couples: $180/session
Dr. Daniel Olavarría, DSW, LCSW:
Couples: $350/session
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
We are proud to offer therapy at various points of financial accessibility depending on the specific therapist, with session fees as low as $120 per session when working with our Associate Psychotherapists.
Additionally, PPO insurance plans can cover anywhere from 30-80% of the session cost for out-of-network therapy after your deductible has been met.
If you have a specific provider in mind, you can instantly verify your out-of-network insurance benefits specific to that therapist here: mentaya.co/b/thecity
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are also accepted.
The full session fee is due at the time of session.
What is your Two-Way Late Cancellation Policy?
As a relationally-focused practice, we believe in modeling fairness, equity, and consistency in boundaries. That’s why we adhere to our Two-Way Late Cancellation Policy that holds therapists and clients to the same standard for late cancellations.
Appointments cancelled by clients with less than 24 hours notice are charged the late cancellation fee which is equivalent to the full session fee. Please note that insurances do not reimburse for missed appointments.
On the rare occasion that your therapist must cancel your session with less than 24 hours notice, you will not be charged for the cancelled appointment and your next session will be provided free of charge.
How do I schedule an appointment or consultation?
We believe in the importance of finding the right fit in a therapist. All clients begin the process by scheduling a free, no pressure 15-minute video or phone consultation with your preferred provider.
If you have a provider in mind, you can schedule your consultation with them here: Book a Free Consultation
If you would like support in matching with a therapist, Dr. Daniel offers a free 20-minute Q&A + Therapist Matching Consult. Book that here.
If you prefer, you can also message Dr. Daniel here and we can coordinate to find the best therapist fit for you!
Do you have evening or weekend availability?
Yes! All of our psychotherapists offer various evening and weekend sessions! Schedule your free consultation with one of them here to view availability: Book a Free Consultation
Do you provide therapy for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients?
Yes, absolutely! As a Latiné-, Queer-owned practice, we prioritize ensuring that all clinicians are prepared to provide safe, affirming care for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients, either as members of those respective communities or as committed allies.
Do you work with children, teens, or families?
At this time, we only work with adults (18+). However, we do often work with parents on issues related to raising children, such as navigating parenting stress and supporting emotional regulation for their children.
We do work with family units, as long as everyone who is participating in family therapy is an adult who can independently consent to treatment. Family therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes long and are charged at the same rate as each provider’s couples therapy fee.
Do you prescribe medication?
In New York State, medication can only be prescribed by physicians and nurse practitioners.
We do not prescribe medication, but we have a reliable network of trusted psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners.
We are happy to provide referrals, and warm introductions, when medication is indicated as part of a holistic treatment plan.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
The Good Faith Estimate is a document that healthcare providers are legally required to provide to patients prior to their first session meant to protect patients by giving them a clear idea of the absolute most that treatment could cost over the course of a predetermined period.
Our Good Faith Estimates are provided over the course of a year, but it does not obligate you to anything; again, this is a patient protection measure required by federal law.
You can read more about the federal law that requires these Good Faith Estimates, the No Surprises Act, here:
